The authorship trap

AI-assisted work is often forced into a false binary.

Either the human wrote it, or the AI wrote it.

Either the tool was passive, or the tool was the author.

Either the human is sovereign, or the machine has displaced them.

This binary is too crude for the actual event.

Meaning often emerges through relation. A human brings an attractor, a concern, a pattern, a rupture, a partial language, an intuition, a need. An AI system reflects, compresses, expands, names, tests, and stabilizes. The human recognizes what is alive, rejects what is wrong, redirects the field, and consents to the artifact.

The event is not merely “AI wrote.”

Origin is not output

The origin of an artifact is not always the same as the surface that generated its sentences.

A human may originate the attractor without having already produced its final language.

Without this grammar, AI-era authorship will alternate between denial and overclaim.
